This website contains the presentations of the seminar 'Standards in action' jointly organized by 'Geo-Informatie Nederland' (GIN, section Geo-ICT) and Netherlands Geodetic Commission, sub commission Geo-Information Models (NCG-GIM). NCG has also produced a publication (number 42, ISBN 90 6132 289 8) related to this seminar. The seminar did not only consisted of theory (presentations), but the standards were also used and tested in practice in front of the audience during the 3rd GML relay. The GML documents (TOP10NL) used as input and produced as output by the participants can be found on the Relay 2004 website together with a number of short presentations.

17 November 2004 was a very special day. First of all, it was again a 'World GIS Day', on which many organizations worldwide did show something of our profession to the outside world (and especially to the new generation; e.g. young school kids). The section GIS Technology assisted by the other (former) Geodesy groups of the Delft University of Technology has participated since 2000, which made 17 November 2004, the 5th World GIS Day in which it participated (previous World GIS Days, only in Dutch).

Second, the seminar was organized in the context of the official farewell of Henri Aalders, who has taken the opportunity to enjoy an early retirement and therefore there was only one possible topic for his 'farewell' seminar and that was of course 'geo-information standardisation'.
